This list of books covers the special relationship of siblings - especially the role of an older sister. It can sometimes be hard when a new baby is going to be added to the family. New siblings may have trouble adjusting to the idea or may be super excited! Regardless of their feelings, these amazing books are a great read for big sisters or siblings in general.
Best-Ever Big Sister 11
With engaging illustrations, this book features Sona who is about to be a big sister. She has always been an only child and is unsure about her feelings. That is until she finds out there is a ceremony to name the baby! Sona is determined to find the perfect name.
It's an exciting role to be a big sister! A great read for any expectant families with an only child, this book is a guide to get kids ready for their new role! It has tips for what to do before the baby comes, when they are born, and general tips for being a great big sis!
A cute book about an elementary-aged kid who is excited to become a big sister. Billie can't wait for the new baby to come, she even decides to give it a teddy bear. But when the big day comes, her parents forget to bring her and she can't find teddy!
A sweet book that uses rhymes, the older sister creates a list of all the things she can do with her little sister. She's very excited and sees having a sibling as a wonderful thing that she gets to share in friendship.
Told from the point of view of the little sister, this funny book tells what it's like to be a little sis. Sure you get hand-me-downs and you have a lot of catching up to do, but you also have an amazing big sister to help you!
A poem about the ups and downs of having a sibling. Jess has a dilemma, a younger sister who is amazing and she loves...until she's not and Emma starts annoying Jess. A true testament to the love we have with our sisters, even when they get on our nerves.
With child-friendly illustrations and funny scenes, this is a great book for any first-time big sister. An empathetic story about how older siblings often feel - that babies ruin everything - and about how they will come to love them.
Maple and Willow are sisters. There is whimsical, free-spirited Maple, and sometimes annoying (to Maple) little sister toddler, Willow. They love playing together, but also get into it. It is a great book to read about sibling love and how kids can figure out disagreements on their own.
A super cute book that put a big sister in front of the family. Older siblings also need to know they are important when babies might take up a lot of time. In this book, we see that babies don't know much, but big sister can help!
I recently bought some new big sister books for Ava to help clear away any confusion and want to review my favorite picks here. These books are great for explaining the concept of a new baby, what changes will happen, and what it means to be a big sister. Gaining a new sibling is a huge life-changer for the whole family, and I hope to make this transition as easy as possible for all of us.
Lola Reads to Leo by Anna McQuinn. This is a very sweet and well-written baby book that follows new big sister Lola preparing for baby, going to the hospital, and what happens when a new baby comes home. I like that the Lola book series has an emphasis on reading. Lola loves to read books about new babies, and chooses books she will read to the baby as well!
My sister is getting married today, and she asked me to be her maid of honor, which came as a bit of a surprise given how often she scolds me. She has a huge social circle from which to select friends. However, I am confident that she did this out of love for me. In addition, I feel blessed to be a part of this special occasion for these two amazing people.
As time went on, our bond became stronger than ever. We were constantly getting into trouble, and I can vividly recall wondering if there would ever be a guy who would be courageous enough to be with someone as wild as my sister. Now we can finally see him!

She is a polar opposite in personality of her brother. She is not above physical confrontation, is very charming, and amicable, as well as possessing a very cheeky sense of humor.
Missy first appeared in "The Porkchop Indeterminacy" (S01E15). When Leonard, Howard, and Raj find out Sheldon has a sister and that she is quite attractive, they fall over each other trying to get her attention. Raj is inspired to begin taking an experimental medication to overcome his pathological shyness. Missy is convinced to stay over with Sheldon and Leonard. Sheldon does everything in his power to ignore and avoid talking to Missy, neglecting to do anything about her being stalked and made uncomfortable by his colleagues.
Sheldon mentions her in "The Jiminy Conjecture" (S3E02), when Howard, Sheldon, and Raj are trying to capture Toby/Jiminy and distinctly hear cricket chirping down the apartment building's elevator shaft. As tensions rise, Howard threatens Sheldon with, "Don't push me, Sheldon. I may be small, but I took Kung Fu when I was 13, and I remember a good deal of it," Sheldon responds with, "Oh really? Well, I grew up with an older brother and a very contentious twin sister and I believe I could easily best you in any physical confrontation, be it noogies, swirlies, or the classic 'Why are you hitting yourself?'"
In "The Bow Tie Asymmetry", Missy attends the wedding of her twin brother appearing physically for the first time in ten years. She is currently pregnant and separated from her husband. She is happy about the separation, but not thrilled about the baby. Amy tells her how happy she is to finally have a sister.
